Selects Academy wins U16 title

‚ÄčN. Andover, MA- Alex Limoges and Joe Cipollone each picked up a goal and an assist to lead Selects Academy over the Jersey Hitmen 5-3 in the USPHL U16 Championship game.

Goaltenders Josh Boyko and Alexei Masanko matched each other save-for-save in the scoreless first period.

Khristian Acosta put the Hitmen in front when he stole the puck in the slot, skated to the bottom of the left circle and shot it past Boyko 59 seconds into the second frame.

Joe Cipollone tied the game at the 4:25 mark when Kyle Limoges fed him with a pass and he knocked it home for a power play goal.

Jake Ryczek put Selects Academy in the lead when he took a pass from Connor Sundquist at the point and rifled a shot past Masanko with 10:16 on the clock.

Kyle Hillbauer tied the game less than a minute later.

Selects Academy took the lead when Jake Schmidt sent Avery Steele and Connor Marshall into the zone on a 2-on-2. Steele drew the defense and the goaltender over to his side and passed to Marshall, who sent the puck home with 7:28 remaining in the period.

Limoges made it 4-2 when he scored from Cipollone and Tyler Augustinsen with 42 seconds left in the second.

The Hitmen pulled Masanko with 2:05 remaining in the game, but Matt Creamer scored an empty-net goal from Sundquist and Marcus Dickerson to give Selects Academy a three-goal lead. The Hitmen, however, refused to quit and pulled within two thanks to an Alex Whelan goal from Acosta with 53 seconds on the clock. Despite the onslaught, Boyko and Selects Academy held on for the win.

Boyko made 22 saves while Masanko turned away 28 shots.
