A two-year veteran of the Northern Cyclones, forward Riley Casey is excited to announce his NCAA Division III commitment to Elmira College for the 2026-27 season.
Casey, a native of Bennington, VT signed with the Cyclones during the 2024-25 season and played in 38 games tallying 13 points. After an up and down season, Casey worked hard to come back for the 2025-26 season and is serving as captain of the team. In 50 games so far, Casey has 33 points (16G, 17A) and has emerged as a true leader.
“My time with the Northern Cyclones has been a grind,” said Casey. “My first year here was up and down, as I struggled to get into the lineup and had to bring my best every day to earn my spot. The coaches trusted me to come back this year and be the captain of the team. It has been an honor and a lot of fun to serve in that role.”
In late October, the Elmira coaching staff reached out to Casey. They had a few conversations and then set up a visit for him to come to campus.
“The coaching staff said that my size and physicality stood out to them, along with the way I can move for my size and the skill I bring to the table,” said Casey. “I pride myself on playing a 200-foot game and prioritizing the defensive side of the puck.”
As soon as Casey stepped foot on campus and finished his tour, he felt it was a great place to see himself thrive for the next four years. Casey liked the tight-knit community and the unbelievable hockey facilities. It was a no-brainer for him to attend. Casey plans to study business with a focus in sports management.
“Elmira felt like the right fit because of the community and the coaching staff,” said Casey. “The smaller class sizes allow students to build real connections with their professors rather than just being another student in a lecture hall, which is a huge advantage of a small school. The facilities will allow me to take advantage of them on my own time to elevate my game to another level.”
Casey would like to thank his parents and his brother for always pushing and supporting him. He would also like to thank Jake Juron and Brad Shaver for bringing me in during my youth years with NY Dynamo. Finally, Casey wants to thank Coach Flanagan and Coach Weiand for two amazing years with the Cyclones.
The NCDC congratulates Riley Casey, his family, the Northern Cyclones and Elmira College for his commitment.
