Tucker Tone closed his four-year USPHL Premier career in the best possible way – with an NCAA college commitment in hand. Tone, a 2004-born native of Crown Point, Ind., originally played in the Premier in 2021-22 with the former Midwest Blackbirds, moving the next year to begin his three-year run with the Spacemen. Tone is committed to Rivier University, located in Nashua, N.H., for the 2025-26 season.

“I was scouted at Nationals by Coach [John] Coughlin. He spoke with me after one of the games about the opportunity to play at Rivier University,” said Tone. “They liked my speed and my aggressiveness in the corners along with my vision on the ice.”

There are several reasons why Tone is looking forward to playing for Rivier University, including its continued growth as a new NCAA program and the educational opportunities Rivier provides.

“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to play for Rivier. The coaching staff is excited about the future of the program and I’m fortunate to be a part of it!” said Tone. “They offer an amazing opportunity to develop at the NCAA level and the facilities and location are perfect. Nashua is a beautiful town in the heart of hockey country. The school offers an outstanding academic experience with a lot of different undergraduate degrees available.

“Being that it’s a smaller school, it will allow me to focus on hockey and my academics with a lot of support,” Tone added. “I also like to fish and love being by the water, and there’s an abundant amount of outdoor activities with a scenic view.”

During his time in the USPHL, Tone made multiple trips to the USPHL Nationals with the Spacemen, with whom he ranks third in combined regular season and playoff games played (138) and sixth in all-time combined points (103). All told, he played in 170 USPHL games and scored 111 points in the regular season and playoffs.

“Playing for the Spacemen and Coach Kaleigh Schrock over the last three years has been an experience that will always be a staple of my life. Schrock and the organization instilled the value of ‘team first’ along with accountability and work ethic,” said Tone. “I will miss Coach Schrock and everyone in the organization and I’ve been so blessed to have been part of the Spacemen over the past three years.

“The USPHL Premier gave me an opportunity to play at a high level, develop, and to continue to follow my dream of playing NCAA hockey,” said Tone. “It also provided a stable and consistent environment. It was a competitive and fun environment that focused on development while offering exposure.”

College hockey is definitely the next level up and Tone is already hard at work during the off-season preparing himself for the grind of the NCAA game.

“I’ve been working on building my body and continuing to fine-tune my overall skills,” said Tone. “I’m continuing to establish myself as a student of the game. The mental side of the game is extremely important and it has always been an area of the game that Coach Schrock emphasized. It has played a major role in the success of the organization.”

The USPHL congratulates Tucker Tone, his family, the Fort Wayne Spacemen and Rivier University for his commitment.
