Jack Roberts is definitely excited to be flying the flag of Islanders Hockey Club alumni at his next destination, Manhattanville University.
After all, Roberts is the Islanders Premier program’s all-time regular season leading scorer, with 122 points in 116 games. In the postseason, he ranks second in team history with 19 points and first with 23 games played. But now his Islanders days are done, and he’s very likely to make IHC proud when he becomes an NCAA player with the Valiants.
“I started talking to Manhattanville right before Christmas break,” said Roberts, a 2004-born native of Middlefield, Conn. “When I first stepped on campus I knew it was the school for me. I loved the way the campus looked and the location. I love the majors they offer and I found the perfect one for me. In terms of hockey, I thought that I had a good conversation with Coach David Turco and Coach Joey McDermott. They explained what Manhattanville hockey was all about and from then on I knew I wanted to play for them.”
This past season, Roberts was a New England All-Division Second Team selection after registering 56 points in 37 games, a career high in a three-year Premier track that saw him improve from 29 to 37 to 56 points. Additionally, Roberts cut his teeth in the USPHL Elite with the Islanders in 2022-23, scoring 18 points in 11 Elite games before moving up to the Premier en route to his record-setting run there.
“I am very thankful for what the Islanders Hockey club has done for my development. Between working with Coach Punsky and the gym they provide us, they helped me so much through my three years,” said Roberts. “I thought the All-Star game in January was a very cool format. It gave guys an extra chance to be looked at and explore options while playing high-level hockey.”
Roberts is anticipating a big step up in speed when he reaches Manhattanville and begins playing NCAA hockey.
“I hope to work getting quicker, as college hockey is an extremely fast-paced game,” he added.
The USPHL congratulates Jack Roberts, his family, the Islanders Hockey Club and Manhattanville University for his commitment.
