The National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) is proud to recognize two of its players—Balint Lobenwein of the CT Chiefs and Grego Schwartz of the Grand Junction River Hawks—who helped guide Hungary’s U20 National Team to a gold medal at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship (Division IB). Their accomplishment highlights the strength and global reach of NCDC player development.

Lobenwein spent the 2025–26 season with the CT Chiefs, where he continued to elevate his game under Head Coach Todd Bjorkstrand. The NCDC’s emphasis on pace, structure, accountability, and competitiveness provided a strong foundation for his growth. He refined his two-way play, learned to manage pressure at high speed, and embraced the elevated expectations required to earn responsibility within a demanding lineup.

That preparation translated directly to the international stage. Lobenwein was selected to serve as captain of Hungary’s U20 National Team, leading the group through a standout tournament that culminated in a gold-medal performance.

“It was one of the best, most fun weeks of my life and definitely the greatest honor being named captain of the team,” Lobenwein said. “I don’t think there is anything better than representing my home country.”

Joining him on Hungary’s roster was fellow NCDC forward Grego Schwartz, currently competing for the Grand Junction River Hawks. Schwartz brought physicality, energy, and consistency to Hungary’s lineup, contributing to the team’s depth and overall success throughout the tournament. His participation further reflects the league’s commitment to developing players capable of performing at the international level.

Together, Lobenwein and Schwartz showcased the impact of the NCDC’s development model on a global stage. Their success underscores the league’s ability to prepare players for elite competition, leadership roles, and meaningful contributions to their national programs.

The NCDC congratulates Balint Lobenwein and Grego Schwartz on their achievements and is proud to celebrate their role in Hungary’s gold-medal victory at the World Junior Championship.
