Boston Jr. Bruins forward Simon Mateas is thrilled to announce his NCAA Division III commitment to Elmira College for the 2026-27 season.

Mateas, who hails from Slovakia had 53 points with the USPHL Premier Jr. Bruins during the 2024-25 season. This season with the NCDC team, he has been a key asset. In 47 games so far, Mateas has 41 points (17G, 24A) and has made a huge impact on the team.

“The Boston Jr. Bruins are a great organization with a lot of impressive alumni and success throughout their time in the NCDC,” said Mateas. “I played here last season and Coach Hamilton gave me an opportunity to come back and be a part of a great team, which ultimately made me sign and look forward to the beginning of another season as a Jr. Bruin.”

Mateas began his communication with Elmira head coach Aaron Saul at the beginning of December. He kept in touch and things took off from there. He explained what coach Saul liked about his game.

“Coach Saul complimented my net-front presence in the offensive zone, my skating/speed, as well as my compete level,” stated Mateas.

Mateas was drawn to the hockey program and heard nothing but good things about the school and the academics.

“What interested me the most at first about Elmira was how well run their hockey program is, as well as the amount of success it has had throughout its history,” said Mateas. “Everyone I talked to about Elmira had good things to say which also played a role in me wanting to be a part of that organization and its community. Academically Elmira offers a beautiful campus and has an undergraduate degree that I am really interested in earning.”

Though Mateas has his commitment already secured, that does not change his goals of what he wants to accomplish the remainder of the season.

“We want to finish the regular season off strongly,” said Mateas. “After that, go as far as we possibly can in the playoffs and achieve the best results we can regardless of the adversity we may face.”

The NCDC congratulates Simon Mateas, his family, the Boston Jr. Bruins and Elmira College for his commitment.
