After a surprising first-round exit last season in the NCDC playoffs, the Islanders are hungry for redemption and ready to compete.
With only a few players back from last season’s squad, head coach Tim Kyrkostas is looking for a fresh start this season, leading a roster filled with a lot of new faces. Kyrkostas will be expecting a lot out of his six returning players, who he says have already played a key role.
“I am thrilled about this year’s team,” said Kyrkostas. “With only six returners from last season, we are essentially starting fresh. Our returners Cameron Stehle, Troy Hayes, Brady Plaza, Jake Freelove, David Coughlin, and Daniel Dmitrievsky have done an outstanding job of leading the new group and instilling our standards and expectations. I genuinely believe this team possesses tremendous potential, but we all recognize the hard work required every day to meet those expectations.”
Through strong drafting and player development across the organization, the Islanders have some exciting new talent ready to showcase this season.
“We have made excellent progress in our drafting and player development within our midget program,” said Kyrkostas. “We are counting on contributions from our draft picks: Gio Rhoads, Harrison Kramer, and our homegrown talent, Nick Argento. Additionally, we have high hopes for our Swedish tender signing, Liam Normann and Premier tender signing Jason Johnson, both of whom are expected to boost our offensive production.”
Training camp for the Islanders has been highly competitive, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting season. The Islanders also have a top-notch goaltender in Blake McMeniman, who is a recent West Point commit and Kyrkostas is eager to watch him shine this season.
“This year’s training camp has been one of the most competitive we’ve experienced in years, with fierce competition for every position,” said Kyrkostas. “Blake McMeniman has demonstrated remarkable poise in goal for an ’07, proving himself as a winner at both the midget and prep levels. We are excited about his continued development with us this season.”
The Islanders are ready to shine with their brand-new squad, packed with fresh talent and renewed determination after falling short last season.
“Our goal is to become a solid, well-balanced, and hard-working team with depth throughout our lineup,” said Kyrkostas.
