The strength of their program over the past few years has been key to the Ogden Mustangs recent success and they’re looking to keep that momentum going this season as they compete in the tough Mountain Division.
Having a strong family bond is a key component for Head Coach Kenny Orlando as it helps the team work well together creating many opportunities on the ice.
“One strength of our program that has become an identity over the years is the attention to detail within our systematics,” said Orlando. “Early on this season, we have seen a strong family bond between the returning players and the fresh faces coming into our program with their willingness to execute. We expect this bond between the players to carry into the way we play the game as every guy will execute the same as the next when their name is called. The players in Ogden understand the importance of replicating our systematic successes each and every shift, no matter where they are in the lineup or who they are matched up against nightly.”
The Mustangs aim to come out of the gate strong and compete to the best of their ability night in and night out in the highly competitive Mountain Division.
“The core standard that is set in Ogden is built around the compete level from every individual,” said Orlando. “We will be a team that has relentless puck pursuit and creates chaos on our opponents, resulting in our opportunities to strike. If we carry this hunt out appropriately we end up possessing the puck a majority of the game.
“We expect every guy to match the hunger of the next, and that’s what we plan to build in the early months of the season. The Mountain Division is tough, stingy defensively, and fearless in the ugly areas of the ice which keeps our players on their toes every night.”
Ogden relies heavily on their loud and passionate fan base, and they know they are lucky to have such incredible support behind them every home game.
“In regard to home games in Ogden, our fan base is spectacular and always gives us an advantage,” said Orlando. “When teams play in Ogden they know it’s going to be a rowdy environment and opponents will have to earn anything they get.”
With a new season just days away, the Ogden Mustangs are looking to make their mark and start the season off strong in hopes to be competing for the Dineen Cup in the end.
“Our identity in Ogden is always a team that will play with pace every shift both physically and mentally, very structured and detailed defensively, and a threat to opponents when the pucks are on our stick,” said Orlando. “We take pride in our established winning culture, successful hockey learning environment, and player advancement. We have one collective goal: to earn both the Mountain Division Championship & Dineen Cup Championship by the end of the season.”
