Boston Jr. Rangers forward P.J. Sweeney is thrilled to announce his NCAA Division III commitment to Roger Williams University for the 2025-26 season.

Sweeney, who hails from Chamonix, France, has been a part of the Boston Jr. Rangers organization for the past two seasons and has enjoyed his time immensely. During the 2023-24 season, Sweeney put up an astounding 70 points during his time with the Rangers’ developmental team in their prior league. With the move to the NCDC this season, Sweeney returned to the Jr. Rangers and registered 13 points in 39 games played.

“Playing for the Rangers for the last two years allowed me to really develop my game in a highly competitive environment,” said Sweeney. “With the help of the whole coaching staff, I was ready to go to work every morning. The culture and willingness to win is something that the coaches emphasize year after year and I got to experience that. After my first year, I saw how dominant of a program it was, and I was looking forward to facing another challenge once we found out we would be moving up to the NCDC.”

Sweeney started communicating with Roger Williams head coach Chris Hall in the early weeks of February and things really took off from there.

“The coaching staff at Roger Williams liked my physicality, the intensity and energy I brought to every game, and my ability to make quick and smart plays,” said Sweeney.

Sweeney was looking for a school close to the Boston area and somewhere that would challenge him as a player and Roger Williams, heading into its first year as an NCAA varsity program, quickly checked all those boxes for him.

“Coach Hall put a very big emphasis on not only building a tough and hard-to-play against hockey team, but also how important it was that we created a culture and family atmosphere in the locker room,” said Sweeney. “The idea of being part of a new program and building something from the roots up also seemed like a great challenge to take on. On the academic side of things, I heard a lot about how good the school was, offering a wide variety of programs. The location also caught my eye. Staying close to Boston was something I was really looking for.”

Sweeney knew Roger Williams was a school where he would thrive academically and athletically and as soon as he stepped foot on campus, he knew it was the place.

“When I first arrived on campus I was truly amazed by how beautiful the campus was, not only its location, but also the amazing facilities,” said Sweeney. “The campus seemed very welcoming and friendly and like a great place to call home for the next four years.”

During the offseason, Sweeney will be working hard so he can make an impact right away in the fall.

“During the summer I am going to be doing a lot of off-ice work to gain more speed and explosiveness,” said Sweeney. “On the ice I will be working on my skating and edge work, holding on to the puck more, and making plays under physical pressure.”

The NCDC congratulates PJ Sweeney, his family, the Boston Jr. Rangers and Roger Williams University for his commitment.
