NCDC Franchise Rebrands as Northern Maine Pioneers for 2025–26 Season

MAINE Pioneers

The National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) is proud to announce that its Northern Maine franchise will take the ice in the 2025–26 season under new ownership, name and identity — the Northern Maine Pioneers.

This rebrand represents more than just a fresh look. It reflects a commitment to reframing the program’s mission: to honor the heritage and pioneering spirit of Northern Maine, to strengthen ties with the Aroostock County community, and to deliver an unmatched developmental experience for athletes aspiring to collegiate hockey.

The franchise is guided by Owner Brandon Johnson and General Manager Greg Heffernan, who bring a clear vision and a deep passion for building a sustainable program in Aroostook County.

“This is about building something lasting,” Johnson explained. “We want our players to grow, our fans to be proud, and our community to feel connected to this team in a way that endures season after season.”

Heffernan emphasized the alignment between the Pioneers brand and the league’s mission. “The NCDC develops players the right way. Our goal is to create an environment where athletes can both compete at a high level and prepare for their futures in college hockey.”

The NCDC continues to strengthen its footprint in the Northeast, and the rebrand of the Northern Maine franchise underscores its mission to provide high-level opportunities for aspiring student-athletes.

“The Pioneers brand embodies both the tradition of the region and the league’s vision for growth,” said NCDC officials. “This refreshed identity ensures the team connects strongly with its community while maintaining the standards of excellence that define the NCDC.”

The Northern Maine Pioneers will officially begin play in the 2025–26 season. With a new identity, a focused vision, and a strong commitment to players and community, the Pioneers represent the next chapter in junior hockey for Aroostook County. Fans and players alike can look forward to a program that combines regional pride, developmental excellence, and a pioneering spirit as it forges a new path forward.
