2026-27 USPHL Premier Season Preview: New England Conference
The 2026-27 USPHL Premier Season Preview Series continues with a look at the New England Conference.
The New England Conference features a mix of established Premier programs, new teams and organizations with direct pathways to the NCDC and college hockey. Development and advancement remain a major focus throughout the conference as teams prepare for another competitive season.
Here is a team-by-team look at the New England Conference entering 2026-27.
Boston Jr. Rangers
Head Coach: Brian Bowen

2025-26 Record: 24-19-0-1, 49 points
The Boston Jr. Rangers enter 2026-27 expecting size, speed and high-end goaltending to be among the team’s biggest strengths.
Hansel Chicoose and Colton Lee return and will be counted on to provide experience, while several players from last season’s Premier team have already advanced to the organization’s NCDC roster.
The incoming group includes Cody Marchand, Jevon Anson, Evan Zavitz and Matthew Truglio.
During the offseason, the Rangers focused on increasing their speed up front, adding defensemen with strong transition ability and maintaining a high standard in goal.
“We expect this year’s team to play a fast, up-tempo game,” Sorabella said.
Competing at that pace for a full game will be critical in New England.
“The New England Conference is always a tough, competitive conference,” Sorabella said. “We’ll need to play fast and compete all 60 minutes, every game, if we want to be a top team in New England.”
Player advancement remains a major organizational priority. The Rangers’ staff regularly works with players to identify their academic and hockey goals before helping create target lists and connect players with potential opportunities.
“The biggest measure, outside of the standings and a playoff run, will be the number of our players who advance to the NCDC level next season or commit to play NCAA,” Sorabella said.
Boston Jr. Terriers
Head Coach: Mike Derrico
2025-26 Record: First Premier Season
The Boston Jr. Terriers begin their first USPHL Premier season with a roster built around skill and development.
“I think we will have some highly skilled players that are looking to make a big impression at the Premier level,” Derrico said.
As a new Premier team, the Terriers do not have returning players. Brady Hill is one newcomer the organization expects to make an immediate impact because of his previous experience and leadership qualities.
Recruiting the right players to establish the program was the primary focus during the offseason.
“We are a new Premier team, so ultimately finding the right players that can help us start this as an expansion team,” Derrico said.
Development will be central to the Terriers’ identity throughout the year.
“I think we will have a very developmental identity, seeing players improve tremendously throughout the season,” Derrico said.
The organization plans to use individual player analysis to identify strengths and weaknesses and give players specific areas to focus on each week.
Within a talented New England Conference, effort will be critical.
“Outworking our opponents each day,” Derrico said. “This conference has a lot of skill and talent as well, and we will have to outwork those teams in order to find success.”
Islanders Hockey Club
Head Coach: Ben Murphy
2025-26 Record: 32-9-3-0, 67 points
Islanders Hockey Club enters 2026-27 with depth throughout the roster and an established development model connecting its Premier players to higher levels.
“Our depth starting from the net out” will be one of the team’s primary strengths, Murphy said.
IHC expects to play with pace and aggression while continuing to emphasize structure and development.
“We will be fast and aggressive with and without the puck and set the tone each and every day that we are a team and growing to get better,” Murphy said.
That daily growth is supported by an organizational model that places significant emphasis on advancement. The Premier and NCDC staffs remain in regular communication, while players also receive specialized skill-development opportunities.
“We have a strong model of advancement and our NCDC staff is in constant communication,” Murphy said.
The organization also works to provide a college-style daily environment and development process.
Consistency will be essential in a deep New England Conference.
For Murphy, however, the ultimate measure goes beyond wins and losses.
“The season will be successful as long as we are continuing to be the leaders in advancement and development of our players,” Murphy said.
The goal is straightforward: help players continue progressing.
“Moving all of our players on to a higher level of junior hockey or college hockey,” Murphy said.
New England Wolves
Head Coach/General Manager: Andrew Trimble
2025-26 Record: First Premier Season
The New England Wolves enter the season believing balance throughout the lineup can be one of their biggest strengths.
“Balance in net, on defense and up front,” Trimble said.
Anrijs Krumins, Adam Hirs and Petr Stangl are among the returning players expected to take on larger roles.
Newcomers Max Santander, Adam Micka and Kai Joy could also make immediate impacts.
During the offseason, the Wolves focused on improving their depth and generating scoring throughout all of their forward lines.
The result is a young team that expects to rely on skill and speed.
“Skilled and fast. Young team with potential,” Trimble said.
Getting off to a strong start while continuing to improve consistently will be one of the biggest keys.
The Wolves also have a direct organizational pathway to the NCDC.
“Each year we move up players internally to our NCDC,” Trimble said. “Our staff works together to get kids opportunities at the next level.”
For New England, success will be measured through both advancement and team performance.
“Developing our players to help them reach their goals and competing for a championship,” Trimble said.
Northern Cyclones
Head Coach: Bill Weiand
2025-26 Record: 37-5-1-1, 76 points — New England Division Champions
The Northern Cyclones enter the 2026-27 season looking to build on an outstanding 2025-26 campaign that saw them finish atop the New England Division with 37 wins and 76 points.
Under Head Coach Bill Weiand, the Cyclones will look to carry that success into another competitive New England Conference schedule while continuing the program’s emphasis on player development and advancement.
After setting the standard in the conference a year ago, Northern will enter the new season looking to remain among the top teams in New England and position itself for another strong postseason run.
Northern Cyclones Academy
Head Coach: Tony Dalessio
2025-26 Record: First Premier Season
Northern Cyclones Academy begins its first USPHL Premier season in 2026-27 under Head Coach Tony Dalessio.
The new team adds another level to the Northern Cyclones organization, providing players with additional opportunities to develop within the program and work toward advancement to higher levels of junior hockey.
As the Academy establishes itself in the New England Conference, the focus will be on building a competitive foundation, developing players throughout the season and creating opportunities for them to continue progressing within the Cyclones organization and beyond.
South Shore Kings
Head Coach: Kevin Mackey
2025-26 Record: 28-12-3-1, 60 points
The South Shore Kings enter 2026-27 with a young, fast and hungry roster focused on developing players for opportunities at higher levels.
“Young, fast, hungry team,” Mackey said.
Tucker Watkins and Joey Fisher are among the returning players expected to take on increased roles.
The incoming group includes Samuel Schelling, Marcus Adamchuk, Christian Peabody and Josh Legette.
South Shore intentionally targeted younger players eager to develop into future NCDC players.
On the ice, Mackey expects discipline and structure to define the group.
“Discipline and structured,” Mackey said of the team’s identity.
Sticking to that structure will be especially important against a competitive New England schedule.
The Kings’ development model includes individual skill work and video outside of regular team practices, with an emphasis on preparing players for the next step.
For Mackey, success comes down to daily progress.
“The players are getting one percent better each day and making crucial steps in their development,” Mackey said.
Syracuse Lightning
General Manager: James Henry
2025-26 Record: First Premier Season
The Syracuse Lightning begin their first Premier season with a roster combining youth and experience and an emphasis on building around players from Central and Western New York.
“Combination of youth and experience,” Henry said of the team’s strengths.
With no returning players from a previous Syracuse Premier roster, the Lightning will rely on an entirely new group.
Forward Dylan Ling brings grit to the lineup, while mobile two-way defenseman Quinn Rishor is another newcomer expected to make an impact.
Growing the organization locally was a major offseason priority.
Syracuse expects to play a fast, hard-working style with offensive ability throughout the lineup.
“Hard working, fast paced, with offensive talent,” Henry said.
A strong start, particularly on home ice, will be important.
The Lightning’s Premier players also have a direct connection to the organization’s NCDC program.
“Our organization prioritizes development by having Premier players practice and work out with the NCDC team,” Henry said. “We are aiming to promote our Premier players to NCDC rather than finding players from outside of our organization.”
For Syracuse, competing for a playoff spot would represent a successful first Premier season.
Utica Jr. Comets
General Manager: Lou Educate
2025-26 Record: 25-16-2-1, 53 points
The Utica Jr. Comets enter 2026-27 with a young roster built around developing players into future Tier II hockey players.
“We have a very good young group that we are looking to develop into Tier II hockey players,” Educate said.
A small group of veterans returns and will be asked to provide leadership for a roster featuring many new players.
“We will lean on our older players to help teach our younger players,” Educate said.
With a large incoming group, opportunities will be available throughout the lineup.
“The guys who come in and are willing to learn and compete will have success right away,” Educate said.
Utica expects to be a competitive and skilled team while emphasizing continuous improvement.
“Learning every day and getting better as the season goes on,” Educate said.
The Comets have also established a strong pathway between their Premier and NCDC programs. According to Educate, more than seven Premier players over the last three seasons have appeared in NCDC games, and 11 players from last season’s Premier roster had signed with NCDC teams at the time of the submission.
“Our top performers will get opportunities with our own NCDC team during the season,” Educate said.
For Utica, advancement and team success go together.
“Ultimately winning more games than last season and putting ourselves in a position to win our conference championship,” Educate said. “We do that by continuing to develop and grow our players.”
Worcester Railers JHC
Head Coach: John Fine-Lease
2025-26 Record: 23-18-3-0, 49 points
The Worcester Railers JHC enter the 2026-27 season looking to build on a winning 2025-26 campaign in which they finished 23-18-3-0 with 49 points.
Under Head Coach John Fine-Lease, Worcester will look to take another step forward in a competitive New England Conference while continuing to develop players for opportunities at higher levels of junior and college hockey.
After finishing above .500 last season, the Railers will look to use that foundation to remain in the postseason picture and continue progressing as a program in 2026-27.
