Performance Pays: Playoff MVPs Reflect On Championship Seasons
As the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) continues its Performance Pays initiative into the 2026-27 season, we’re looking back at two players whose performances helped lead their teams to national championships.
From the crease to the scoresheet, Patrick Müller of the South Shore Kings and Brayden Boucher of the Vernal Oilers delivered when it mattered most, earning Playoff MVP honors while helping their teams capture league titles.
Patrick Müller
South Shore Kings | NCDC Dineen Cup Playoff MVP
Patrick Müller was a difference-maker throughout the South Shore Kings’ championship run, helping lead the organization to the 2025-26 Dineen Cup title and earning Playoff MVP honors along the way.
For Müller, the recognition was about much more than individual success.
“It was a big honor, and I’m very happy that I was able to achieve it. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of my teammates, coaches, and everyone who supported me along the way. I worked hard every day, and it literally paid off. It’s a great feeling.”
Although he appreciated the recognition, Müller made it clear what motivated him most.
“I don’t play for the money or anything. I play to get better every day and to compete with the other guys. The money part is just the cherry on top.”
Brayden Boucher
Vernal Oilers | USPHL Premier Playoff MVP
Brayden Boucher played a key role in helping the Vernal Oilers capture the 2025-26 USPHL Premier National Championship, earning Playoff MVP honors after an outstanding postseason.
Receiving the award was validation for the work he put in throughout the season.
“Being named Playoff MVP meant a lot to me because it showed that all the dedication to my craft and the effort I put in throughout the season paid off. Winning the championship with my teammates and seeing all the hard work we put in finally pay off was an amazing feeling.”
Boucher also said being recognized through the Performance Pays initiative provided even more motivation moving forward.
“Being recognized by the Performance Pays initiative was very rewarding. It showed me that the hard work and effort I put in throughout the season didn’t go unnoticed. It also motivated me to keep pushing myself and to continue doing the extra work others don’t see.”
