Seacoast Spartans forward John Mantone loved his time spent with the organization and now has earned himself an NCAA Division III commitment to Fitchburg State University for the 2025-26 season.
The Nashua, N.H., native spent two full seasons with the Spartans and would not have had it any other way. In their move to the NCDC this season, Mantone played in 45 total games and tallied 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists).
“Although we didn’t have the most wins this season, Seacoast [now NY Dynamo] Coach Brett Tryder and Coach Montecalvo made it easy to get better as a player. I learned so much from Coach Tryder and would not be the player I am today without him. He really doesn’t just make you a better hockey player, he makes sure you are a good person off the ice. He was always making sure everyone was a good teammate and tried to help the boys get jobs to stay busy. Overall, I felt Seacoast was the best possible spot for me.”
Mantone began communicating with the Fitchburg State coaching staff shortly after Christmas time.
“The coaches at Fitchburg liked how I saw the ice and could play aggressively offensively by being a power forward,” said Mantone.
Several factors went into Mantone choosing Fitchburg State. He loved that it was close to his home in New Hampshire, how the school supports its athletes, and he felt that the hockey team fit his style of play.
“I loved all the training facilities and the hockey houses looked like very good living with all the boys. It was very similar to Seacoast, which was the best,” said Mantone. “I also enjoyed how it’s close to home in Nashua, N.H. I felt that Fitchburg hockey fit my game very well and I loved all the facilities. Also it seemed like they had a very close, tight group of guys. The school part seemed awesome as well with a great well-taken-care of campus and I could tell the school really supports all the hockey players.”
Mantone is hoping to do big things at Fitchburg and is working hard this off-season to achieve those goals.
“Going into Fitchburg I’m going to make sure I continue to get bigger, faster and stronger, but also work on staying patient with the puck and capitalizing on my chances to be a goal-scorer,” said Mantone.
The NCDC congratulates John Mantone, his family, the Seacoast Spartans/New York Dynamo and Fitchburg State University for his commitment.
