Casper Warbirds goaltender Jeffrey Fillion is thrilled to announce his NCAA Division III commitment to Wilkes University for the 2025-26 season.
The Saguenay, Que., native split time this season with the Utah Outliers, appearing in 13 games for them, and ended his juniors career with the Warbirds appearing in six games.
“Being traded to Casper was a good thing for me,” said Fillion. “The organization there was great. I started talking to Wilkes not long after I got to Casper, thanks to the coaching staff there putting me in contact with them.”
One big integral moment of Fillion’s junior hockey career was winning the Premier National Championship with the Northern Cyclones in 2023. In eight appearances during the playoff run, Fillion was exceptional going 7-1 with a 1.86 GAA.
“That is something I will remember my whole life,” said Fillion. “I could not have asked for a better group to do that with, these guys will be brothers to me for my whole life. Winning this really gave me a lot of experience, and I will bring this experience to Wilkes to win a national championship with them one day.”
Fillion started communicating with Wilkes towards the end of this season and really liked everything they had to offer.
“I had some very good talks with the coaching staff,” said Fillion. “They liked how I can keep my team in any sorts of games, how I can control the game and make big saves at big times, and they also liked the experience that I will bring to Wilkes with my national championship.”
Fillion was drawn to Wilkes for their strong hockey program and academically they have one of the top business programs in the country.
“I found the opportunity that Wilkes offered for both my personal career and as a team really great,” said Fillion. “I know I will have a good shot there to showcase my game and with them finishing first in their conference last year, and the recruiting they have been doing, I know we have a real shot at going really far next season. Academically, I wanted to go study business and Wilkes had one of the best business programs in the country, so that really helped. With the opportunity that I have both for my hockey and my academics, going to Wilkes was a no brainer for me.”
Fillion knows the college level of play will be more challenging so he is working on simplifying his game.
“I want to keep working on keeping my game as simple as possible as it will be important for me to do so in a faster-paced league,” said Fillion. “I also want to add even more consistency to my game.”
The NCDC congratulates Jeffrey Fillion, his family, the Casper Warbirds and Wilkes University for his commitment.
