Northern Cyclones defenseman Kyan Helenklaken put in a lot of hard work towards earning his NCAA Division III commitment to Fitchburg State University for the 2025 26 season.
Helenklaken, who is a native of Amsterdam, Netherlands, signed with the Cyclones for the 2024-25 season and had the most positive experience. In 51 regular season games, Helenklaken had 16 points (two goals, 14 assists) and was a key member of the blue line.
He also played in 10 playoff games as the Cyclones made it all the way to the Dineen Cup final four this season.
“The Cyclones are a great organization with a great coaching staff that really pushes you to improve and perform at your best,” said Helenklaken. “Also, the team was really close and we had such a fun time together. I am so grateful that I got the opportunity to play and be a part of the Cyclones family.”
Helenklaken started communicating with the Fitchburg coaching staff around November and things took off from there.
He was looking for a school that would challenge him hockey wise and he was thrilled that the coaches have years of experience.
“The experience of the coaching staff and the great facilities really stood out to me,” said Helenklaken. “Fitchburg has great facilities that can really make me and others improve both on and off the ice.”
During the off-season, Helenklaken is going to use his size and work more on his skating to be an impact player this fall.
The NCDC congratulates Kyan Helenklaken, his family, the Northern Cyclones and Fitchburg State University for his commitment.
