It’s been a heck of a year for Jonas Oesterle. In his first season with the Florida Jr. Blades, he was named as a Florida/Southeast All-Star, taking part in the USPHL All-Star Event in Foxboro, Mass., last winter. He also made his NCAA hockey commitment to Framingham State University. It could not have gone much better for the 2004-born native of Syracuse, N.Y.
“I started talking to Framingham in January. They like the fact I play a 200-foot game with a good first pass and good hockey IQ,” added the two-year USPHL veteran defenseman. “One of the biggest things that drew me in as a hockey player was that their coach played for Framingham. I’m a big believer in staying to your roots and I think that shows not only the character recruited in the locker room, but also the fact we can lean on our coaching staff through adversity because he knows what it’s like to be in this position. Academically, I love that classrooms are smaller and teachers can focus on students a lot more.”
Originally a member of the Utica Jr. Comets Premier team in 2023-24, Oesterle joined the Jr. Blades for his final junior season and was truly happy with his development and its end product, the NCAA college commitment.
“The coaches have helped me a lot this season and showed me the type of game you have to play to be an asset at the next level. I’ve gotten a lot better in the gym thanks to our strength coach,” said Oesterle. “We have access to a really nice gym, shooting room, and a pro rink. We’re given all the tools to reach the next level and coaches make it a point to give everyone an opportunity.
“Playing in the USPHL has been super competitive and a great place to develop,” added Oesterle. “Anyone can beat anyone. That’s the type of hockey that prepares you for the NCAA.”
He also got to see the amazing talent that both the NCDC and USPHL Premier have to offer at the USPHL All-Star Event.
“The All-Star event was one of the most fun experiences in my hockey career. It was an honor to be selected by the coaches, especially with the quality in the Florida and Southeast Divisions,” Oesterle added. “It was great getting to know the players we compete with on a weekly basis, and makes playing against them even more fun now. The pace and skill was at another level and I think it showcased how many good players we have in this league.”
The USPHL congratulates Jonas Oesterle, his family, the Florida Jr. Blades and Framingham State University for his commitment.
