Being named to the USPHL Premier All-Star Event in January was a huge difference-maker for the Hampton Roads Whalers’ Wyatt Teubert. After all, that is where he made his first contact with a coach from his future collegiate home, Nichols College in Dudley, Mass.
“I started talking to Nichols College after meeting their Assistant Coach at the USPHL All-Star Game. The coaches liked my 200-foot game and level of competition every shift,” said Teubert, a native of White Rock, B.C.
“Nichols offered me a school that is a brotherhood,” Teubert added. “From talking to the coaches and players on the team, everyone is committed to reaching each other’s greater goals. They have highly-ranked business and management programs, which fit my personal needs.”
Teubert was a difference-maker from the time he joined the Whalers’ USPHL Elite team in 2021-22, scoring 30 points in 39 combined regular season and playoff games. He saw his first two USPHL Premier games that year, and was a regular Premier player in 2022-23 and beyond, beginning a career that would see him eventually rank third on a very accomplished Whalers Premier leaderboard.
His 151 points in 121 games would be No. 1 on dozens of organizations’ leaderboards, but he’s certainly happy to be on a leaderboard with current pro players Brandon Osmundson (239 career points) and John Moncovich (172 points). Teubert is the top all-time scorer for the Whalers in the current USPHL Premier Conference, which saw its first season in 2017-18. He capped his career with a 76-point All-Division season in 2024-25, which also saw him rack up five points in four playoff games.
“I liked the Hampton Roads Whalers because of the amazing coaching and the community we built each season,” said Teubert. “The Whalers organization is focused on building great young men on and off the ice. I played many different teams from all over the states during my time in the USPHL, which allowed me to experience numerous different systems from each team. It helped grow my IQ and has prepared me for the NCAA.”
He also praised that first junior step of the USPHL Elite to kick off his junior career coming out of his native Canada.
“I came into the Elite after not playing a lot of hockey after the COVID season. During my Elite season, I was able to play a lot of minutes growing my confidence and conditioning,” added Teubert.
Teubert is keeping after his game during the summer, ahead of his move to Massachusetts to play for the Bison in the Conference of New England.
“I plan to get more explosive and work on the mental side of my game, and keep up my confidence and understanding of systems,” added Teubert.
The USPHL congratulates Wyatt Teubert, his family, the Hampton Roads Whalers and Nichols College for his commitment.
