The Florida Eels’ approach to off-ice development recently earned attention from Gulf Coast News, which highlighted how the program incorporates hockey yoga into its players’ routines.

In an Oct. 4 report by sports reporter Bradley Shimel, yoga instructor Tara Mina—known to the players as “Yoga Mama”—discussed sessions tailored to the demands of hockey. The 45-minute routines give players an opportunity to unwind following practices and games, with an emphasis on recovery, relaxation and injury prevention.

Eels player Leandre Masson told Gulf Coast News that the sessions help him manage stress and muscle soreness while leaving him feeling relaxed. Teammate Paxton Campbell highlighted the opportunity to rest and meditate.

Mina also emphasized the connections built during the sessions, describing the sense of community and team unity as a rewarding part of her work with the Eels.
