Forward Tye Battipaglia of the Worcester Railers Junior Hockey Club put in the work this season and earned himself an NCAA Division III commitment to Fitchburg State University for the 2025-26 season.
Battipaglia, a Cheshire, Conn., native, signed with the Railers last summer and had a great experience with the team this season. In 50 regular season games, Battipaglia had 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) and was a top player for Worcester all season. He formed a good relationship with the coaching staff and knew they would help him get to the next level.
“The Worcester Railers JHC organization gave me the tools and knowledge to grow not only as a hockey player but as a person as well,” said Battipaglia. “I couldn’t thank the organization enough for pushing me to be a better version of myself. I decided to sign with the Worcester Railers for the 2024-25 season because I loved the facilities and I felt like the coaching staff would be able to get me to the NCAA level.”
Battipaglia started communicating with the Fitchburg coaching staff in early January about continuing his hockey career there.
“The coaches at Fitchburg liked that I use my size and speed to drive the net as well as my net-front abilities,” said Battipaglia.
Battipaglia has an interest in engineering so he was drawn to that aspect of the school as well as the friendliness of everyone on campus.
“When I first visited campus I really liked the welcoming and family-like atmosphere,” said Battipaglia. “I felt this from the moment I stepped onto campus, from the tour guide who showed my parents and I around to the president of the University showing great hospitality by taking time out of her meeting to say hello to us when we were walking by. The engineering facilities definitely interested me the most about Fitchburg as well as the incredible strength facilities.”
Now that his junior career has come to a close, Battipaglia is going to work hard in the offseason, particularly on getting stronger.
“I will keep building my strength and speed while enhancing my all-around skills in hopes of becoming an impactful player at Fitchburg next season,” said Battipaglia.
The NCDC congratulates Tye Battipaglia, his family, the Worcester Railers JHC and Fitchburg State University for his commitment.
