The United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) Premier has announced its January  Stars of the Month, recognizing standout performances from the month.

The United States Premier Hockey League extends its deepest condolences following the tragic passing of three members of the Southern Alberta Mustangs organization Caden Fine, JJ Wright, and Cameron Casorso. The entire league stands in solidarity with the Mustangs, their families, and the broader hockey community during this incredibly difficult time. In honor of their lives, their passion for the game, and the impact they made on those around them, the USPHL is recognizing Caden, JJ, and Cameron as Alberta Stars of the Month. Their memory will forever remain a part of our hockey family.

A GoFundMe has been set up  to help lift the financial burden of travel, funeral costs, and day to day expenses of the players families from Canada and the United States. Click here for more information.

The Mustangs will be holding a Benefit Night Game on Sunday, February 8th.

Forward: Caden Fine – Southern Alberta Mustangs: Caden Fine was in his first season with the Southern Alberta Mustangs and quickly earned the respect of everyone around him through his work ethic, compete level, and genuine love for the game. The 17-year-old Birmingham, Alabama native — and former Jr. Bulls standout — brought relentless energy to every practice and game. Coaches praised his drive to improve each day, his team-first approach, and his ability to lift up the players around him. Though early in his junior career, Caden’s impact was immediate and lasting, making him a beloved part of the Mustangs organization.

Forward: JJ Wright – Southern Alberta Mustangs: The Mustangs remember JJ Wright, an 18-year-old forward from Kamloops, British Columbia, whose character and consistency defined his time with the organization. A longtime member of the Kamloops Minor Hockey Association, JJ arrived in Alberta with a reputation for leadership and strong two-way play, and he lived up to every bit of it. JJ led through his actions, always the first to put in the work and the last to leave the ice. His teammates admired his calm, steady presence, his commitment to the group, and his willingness to take on any role needed. JJ was respected by everyone who played with him, and his quiet determination and team-first mentality will never be forgotten.

Goalie: Cameron Casorso – Southern Alberta Mustangs: The Mustangs also honor Cameron Casorso, an 18-year-old goaltender from Kamloops, British Columbia, whose passion, composure, and dedication made him a cornerstone presence both on and off the ice. A product of the Kamloops Minor Hockey Association from 2012–2025, Cameron developed into a poised, technically sound goaltender who thrived under pressure. His teammates trusted him deeply, not just for the critical saves he made, but for his calm demeanor, supportive nature, and unwavering commitment to the team. Cameron approached every day with purpose, consistently striving to improve and help those around him. His legacy as a teammate, friend, and competitor will always remain within the Mustangs community.
