He followed with a goal and two assists in a 6-2 win on Oct. 23, scoring shorthanded as the Bombers secured their second victory of the series.
Vargas finished the sweep Oct. 24 with another two-goal, two-assist performance in a 9-1 victory. It marked his second four-point game of the week and brought his series totals to five goals and six assists.
Long Beach outscored the Ghost Riders 21-3 across the three games, with Vargas recording a point on more than half of the Bombers’ goals.
“We are extremely proud of Marcus’ performance from the previous weekend,” Head Coach Curtis Fisher said. “He has had an exceptional start of the season and our staff and program are grateful he was recognized for this award. Marcus is the heart and soul of this team being our Captain. He leads by example, plays with passion and plays in every situation for us including scoring big shorthanded goals.”
Vargas’ dominant series brought his season totals to 20 goals and 16 assists for 36 points through 12 games, averaging three points per game. He has already surpassed the 17 goals he scored in 36 appearances with Long Beach last season.
The Performance Player of the Week award recognizes one USPHL Premier player each week, regardless of position or division, through a vote by the league’s media panel. It is separate from the League Office’s Stars of the Week selections, which recognize a forward, defenseman and goaltender from each division and do not include a cash award.
Performance Pays continues in 2026–27, with the USPHL Premier program providing $500 weekly awards over 20 weeks. The initiative also rewards championship success, season award recipients and standout postseason performers.
