NCDC Final Buzzer: Comebacks, Champions and Early Conference Leaders Emerge
Fifty-eight completed games, 410 goals, 16 one-goal finishes and four trips beyond regulation opened the 2026-27 NCDC season.
The WBS Knights erased a three-goal deficit and finished the weekend atop the Atlantic Conference at 3-0. The defending Dineen Cup champion South Shore Kings scored 15 goals in two victories. Toledo answered a 3-0 deficit with six straight goals, while Northern Maine turned a scoreless Sunday game into a 3-0 victory in the final 2:13.
By the end of the weekend, the first conference races had taken shape. Springfield and New England each collected five points, Coral Springs and Hudson opened 2-0, and pairs of unbeaten teams finished level on four points in the Mountain, Southeast and Great Lakes races.
Weekend Headlines
Three Down, Three Wins for WBS
The WBS Knights trailed the Connecticut Jr. Rangers 6–3 in the third period Friday before producing the weekend’s biggest comeback.
Connor Lawrence scored twice during the rally, completing his hat trick when he tied the game with 4:50 remaining. Carter Morrison buried the winner 1:19.6 into overtime for a 7–6 victory.
The Knights carried that momentum through the rest of the weekend. They beat West Chester 4–2 on Saturday and Utica 3–1 on Sunday. Caleb Rashleigh scored twice in each of those final two wins.
WBS finished the weekend 3–0 with six points, taking the early lead in the Atlantic Conference.
Defending Champions Open 2–0
The defending Dineen Cup champion South Shore Kings opened their title defense with two victories, scoring 15 goals against the Utica Jr. Comets.
South Shore won 6–2 Friday before breaking out for a 9–4 victory Saturday. Six different Kings scored in the opener. Sawyer Graubins then scored four times in the rematch, while Len-Thomas Wright added three goals.
The Kings finished the opening weekend 2–0 with a plus-nine goal differential and four points in the Metropolitan Conference. South Shore captured the 2026 Dineen Cup with a 1–0 overtime victory over the Grand Junction River Hawks, completing a 13–1 postseason run.
Toledo Scores Six Straight
Fort Wayne struck three times in the opening period Saturday, but the lead did not last.
Toledo scored twice in the second and four times in the third, turning a 3–0 deficit into a 6–3 win. The Cherokee completed the sweep Sunday, recovering from another first-period deficit to win 5–4.
Toledo and Chicago each opened 2–0 in the Great Lakes Division, with Chicago holding the first official tiebreaker position.
Northern Maine Owns the Final 2:13
Northern Maine and Quebec played more than 57 scoreless minutes in their Sunday rematch.
Then everything changed.
Justin Wingron scored with 2:13 remaining. Gabe Eckdahl followed 33 seconds later, and Grant Levins added another with 51 seconds left. Three goals in 82 seconds gave the Pioneers a 3-0 win one day after Quebec had won the first meeting 6–5.
Quebec finished the weekend atop the Northeast Conference with four points.
New York Forces Its Way Back
Springfield carried a 3-1 lead into the third period Saturday, but New York was not finished.
Samson Glozshteyn and Nicholas Ferrari tied the game before the Dynamo secured a 4-3 shootout win.
Springfield still finished the opening weekend atop the Colonial Conference. The Pics earned five of six available points, surrounding the shootout loss with regulation wins over Worcester and the Connecticut RoughRiders.
Hudson Wins Two Different Ways
Hudson opened its weekend with a 4–0 shutout of Minnesota Squatch. Nicholas Carls scored three times in the victory.
One day later, the Havoc needed every bit of a 7–3 lead. Wisconsin Rapids scored three times in the third, but Hudson held on for a 7–6 win.
The two victories placed Hudson atop the North Division with four points.
Atlantic Conference
WBS established the early Atlantic lead with six points, while the Rockets Hockey Club opened 2–0 and moved into second. Jersey earned three of four available points, including an overtime point against P.A.L.

WBS Knights 7, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 6 — OT
Connecticut led 5–2 after two periods and restored a three-goal advantage early in the third. Connor Lawrence scored twice during the comeback, completing his hat trick and tying the game with 4:50 remaining. Carter Morrison scored 1:19.6 into overtime.
Rockets Hockey Club 3, West Chester Wolves 1
Maksym Pastukh scored all three Rockets goals. His first broke a scoreless tie in the second, and he added two more in the third.
Jersey Hitmen 4, Mercer Chiefs 1
Jersey built a 2–0 first-period lead and remained in control from there. David Ambuhl scored twice, while Nhan Boebel and Brennan Waters added goals.
Saturday
Mercer Chiefs 4, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 2
Mercer scored twice in the first period and carried a 3–1 lead into the third. Benjamin Smith restored the Chiefs’ two-goal margin after Victor Elias brought Connecticut closer.
WBS Knights 4, West Chester Wolves 2
The teams traded four first-period goals before playing a scoreless second. Caleb Rashleigh and Timur Naletov scored in the third to complete WBS’s second win.
P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 3, Jersey Hitmen 2 — OT
P.A.L. led 2–1 after the first, but Stephen Rousell tied it for Jersey in the second. After a scoreless third, Algirdas Jaras ended it in overtime.
Sunday
Rockets Hockey Club 4, Mercer Chiefs 3
The teams were tied 2–2 after the first. Maksym Pastukh and Vittorio Marino scored in the second, giving the Rockets enough separation to hold off Mercer.
WBS Knights 3, Utica Jr. Comets 1
WBS scored once in every period. Caleb Rashleigh recorded his second consecutive two-goal game, including a third-period goal with 12.6 seconds remaining.

Springfield emerged from the opening weekend in first with five points. New York, Syracuse and Vermont each opened 2–0 and finished one point back.

Syracuse Lightning 4, Montreal Black Vees 2
Syracuse scored once in the first, once in the second and twice in the third. Montreal scored both of its goals in the final period but could not erase the Lightning’s lead.
New York Dynamo 4, CT Chiefs 3
The Chiefs led 1–0 after the first, but New York scored twice in both the second and third periods. Noah Thomsen supplied the Dynamo’s fourth goal.
Vermont Universal 2, Red Bank Generals 1
The game was scoreless through the first. Jason Maltais put Vermont ahead in the second, and Elliot Desmarais added the eventual winner in the third.
Springfield Pics 4, Worcester Jr. Railers 1
Worcester led 1–0 after the first, but Springfield tied it in the second and scored three times in the third. Joe Maffia accounted for all three third-period goals.

Vermont Universal 5, Red Bank Generals 3
Vermont carried a 3–1 lead into the third. Red Bank scored twice early in the period, but Milan Turena and Jason Maltais answered to close the victory.
New York Dynamo 4, Springfield Pics 3 — Shootout
Springfield led 3–1 after two periods. Samson Glozshteyn and Nicholas Ferrari tied it in the third before New York secured the extra point in the shootout.
Syracuse Lightning 3, Montreal Black Vees 2
Syracuse scored once in each period and completed the two-game sweep. Jack Magill scored for the second consecutive day.

Springfield Pics 5, Connecticut RoughRiders 2
Springfield scored three times in the first and never surrendered the lead. Tannar Severyn scored twice as the Pics finished the weekend with five points.
Boston Jr. Rangers 5, CT Chiefs 2
Gavin Parks scored three times as the Rangers built leads of 2–0 and 3–1 before pulling away in the third. Boston finished with a 56–42 advantage in shots.

The Islanders led after every period and scored three times in the third. Boston’s William Dunlap scored with 1.8 seconds remaining, but the Rangers’ late push ran out of time.
Northern Cyclones 5, Boston Jr. Terriers 3
The teams were tied 1–1 after the first. Northern scored three times in the third, with Zachary Peterson collecting his second goal of the game.
New England Wolves 4, Boston Jr. Bruins 0
New England scored twice in each of the first two periods and protected the shutout from there. Tamerlan Zakaryanov scored twice.
South Shore Kings 6, Utica Jr. Comets 2
South Shore scored four times in the second period to break the game open. Six different Kings found the net.
Saturday
Boston Jr. Terriers 4, Boston Jr. Bruins 1
The teams were tied 1–1 after two periods before the Terriers scored three times in the third. Rylan Bisel scored twice, including a goal with 11.5 seconds remaining.
South Shore Kings 9, Utica Jr. Comets 4
South Shore scored three times in the first and five times in the third. Sawyer Graubins scored four goals, while Len-Thomas Wright recorded three.
New England Wolves 7, Thunder Hockey Club 3
New England followed Friday’s shutout with a seven-goal performance. Dylan Perron scored twice as five Wolves contributed goals.

Northern Cyclones 5, New England Wolves 4 — Shootout
Northern led 4–3 after two periods, but Cam Plumb tied it for New England in the third. Neither team scored in overtime before the Cyclones won the shootout.
Worcester Jr. Railers 2, Boston Jr. Bruins 1
Colson Edwards gave Worcester a first-period lead. Boston tied it in the second, but Aidan Garced scored the deciding goal in the third.

Charlotte and Red River were tied 2–2 after the first. Following a scoreless second, the Rush scored three times in the third to secure the cross-conference win.
Chicago Union 6, Metro Jets 3
The game was tied 2–2 after the first, but Chicago scored twice in each remaining period. Ben Bakutis scored twice for the Union.
Saturday
Charlotte Rush 9, Red River Spartans 2
Charlotte scored four times in both the first and second periods. Lorenzo Tita and Jeffrey Saul each scored twice as the Rush generated 47 shots.
Chicago Union 2, Metro Jets 1
Chicago followed Friday’s six-goal win with a much tighter victory. Ben Bakutis and JJ Mueller scored for the Union.
Toledo Cherokee 6, Fort Wayne Spacemen 3
Fort Wayne scored three times in the first period. Toledo answered with two in the second and four in the third, scoring six unanswered goals.

Fort Wayne again led after the first, this time 2–1. Toledo scored three times in the second and held on in the third to complete the two-game sweep.

Minnesota Blue Ox 2, Northwest Express 0
Quinn Andrews and Markus Lunski supplied the goals. Northwest recorded 45 shots but could not solve the Blue Ox goaltending.

Hudson Havoc 7, Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings 6
Hudson led 7–3 after two periods, but Wisconsin Rapids scored three times in the third. The Havoc held on to complete a two-win weekend.
Minnesota Squatch 5, Northwest Express 2
Minnesota scored three times in the first and led throughout. Matthew Vaccaro scored twice.

Woodstock scored once in the first, once in the second and twice in the third. Four different Warriors found the net.
Thunder Hockey Club 4, Lewiston MAINEiacs 1
The teams were tied after the first and scoreless in the second. Thunder scored three times in the third to take control.

Quebec won the first of two weekend meetings by one goal in the Northeast’s highest-scoring game.
St. Stephen County Moose 10, Perth-Andover Bearcats 1
St. Stephen scored five times in the first and added three in the second. The Moose generated 60 shots, with Joey Anderson and Trevor Ponath each scoring twice.

Justin Morrissey and Michael Mahoney scored in the second period. Typhoon protected the shutout despite Tampa holding a 36–34 advantage in shots.

Coral Springs built a 2–1 first-period lead and added one goal in each remaining period. Declan Quinn scored twice.
