A two-year veteran of the Connecticut Jr. Rangers, defenseman Andrew Bellehumeur is excited to announce his NCAA Division III commitment to Worcester State University for the 2025-26 season.

Bellehumeur, who hails from Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., signed with the Connecticut Jr. Rangers during the 2023-24 season and played in 40 games. It was a no-brainer for him to return this season and in 50 regular season games, Bellehumeur had six points and was a solid defenseman.

“I really enjoyed my time with CJR,” said Bellehumeur. “It is a great place to develop on and off the ice. Coach Jim Henkel brought our game to another level, showing us how to play the right way and he is making sure we are ready for the next level. After my first NCDC season in 2023-2024, I felt it was a good place to go back and continue to improve. Even though we were out of the playoffs, the coaches made sure we were still working hard and showing up every day until the last one.”

Bellehumeur is grateful for his time spent in the NCDC the past couple of seasons and for all the exposure it gave him.

“For a kid from Quebec, I really enjoyed my time in the NCDC,” said Bellehumeur. “It is a fast, competitive, physical and high-level junior league. Great for development and bringing you to the college level.”

Bellehumeur started talking with the Worcester State coaching staff shortly after Christmas break. He explained that the coaching staff liked his “two-way game, strong defense with grit and compete level.”

Bellehumeur was big on picking a school where he can further develop as a player and also get a solid education an Worcester State was the perfect place for that.

“As for academics, I really liked the campus and the few classrooms I visited,” said Bellehumeur. “I want to study business and they are offering a great program for it.

“For the hockey side of things, I liked the facilities,” said Bellehumeur. “Everything is pretty much new and the rink is pretty nice as well. There is a big gym where you can work out and get better. There are also places and things to recover fast after games and practices, which is always good for athletes. I also enjoyed talking with the coaching staff and I liked their vision for me and the team for the upcoming years. It was important for me to go to a place where I can continue to develop every day on and off the ice to go to the next level and I felt this was the right coaching staff.”

Bellehumeur is big on taking his game up another level next season and is going to work hard in the off-season to show why he will be a key asset at Worcester State.
