NCDC Final Buzzer: Coral Springs Claims Florida Cup As New Leaders Emerge | Oct. 16-18, 2026

NCDC Final Buzzer

Coral Springs left Fort Myers with the first NCDC Florida Cup championship, Columbus remained perfect with two wins over Chicago and three different conference races produced new leaders during an eventful NCDC weekend.

Of the 53 games played from Friday through Sunday, 18 were decided by one goal and 12 required overtime or a shootout. The weekend also produced five shutouts, a three-goal comeback and meaningful movement in the Atlantic, Metropolitan, Florida and Midwest North standings.

Florida Cup: Coral Springs Makes History

The Coral Springs Jr. Cats became the first NCDC Florida Cup champions, defeating the Florida Jr. Blades 5-4 in a shootout Sunday at the Fort Myers Skatium.

The Jr. Blades carried a 3-2 lead out of the first period, but Coral Springs responded during the second. Stratton Maas scored twice for the Jr. Cats, joining Matthew White and Declan Quinn on the scoresheet before the championship was decided in the shootout.

Coral Springs reached the final with a 5-0 semifinal victory over Typhoon Hockey Club. Easton Stockert opened the scoring before Alex Morris, Dominic Deery, Declan Quinn and Gabriel Forney completed the shutout win.

The Jr. Blades advanced by beating the Florida Eels 6-2. Luke Thomilson scored twice during a four-goal third period that broke open the semifinal.

The championship completed a 2-0 weekend for Coral Springs, extended its winning streak to five games and moved the Jr. Cats into first place in the Florida Division with 14 points.

The Eels defeated Typhoon 4-2 in Sunday’s consolation game.

Atlantic Conference: The Knights Create Separation

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton collected four points and extended its winning streak to four, moving to 17 points at the top of the Atlantic.

The Knights opened with a 6-3 win over West Chester and closed the weekend by beating Utica 4-1. Timur Naletov scored three times Sunday, including both Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goals in the third period.

P.A.L. remained in pursuit with a 4-1 victory over Mercer. Landon Roberson and Demid Guntypov gave the Jr. Islanders an early lead before Lucien Haskas and Michael Papaspyros finished the scoring in the third.

Jersey also gained ground with two victories. The Hitmen beat the Rockets 7-4 on Friday and Mercer 8-2 on Sunday, extending their winning streak to three and moving to 13 points—one behind P.A.L.

Connecticut Jr. Rangers earned a 4-2 comeback win against Islanders Hockey Club. The Rangers trailed 2-0 before scoring four unanswered goals, with Egor Sapozhnikov striking twice in the third period.

Colonial Conference: Dynamo Stays Hot, Chiefs Climb

New York Dynamo strengthened its hold on first place by scoring 17 goals across two wins.

Dynamo defeated Red Bank 7-5 on Friday before rolling past the Connecticut RoughRiders 10-2 on Saturday. New York put 63 shots on goal in Saturday’s victory and finished the weekend on a four-game winning streak with 16 points.

The Connecticut Chiefs made the conference’s biggest positive move. They beat Vermont 5-2 and the RoughRiders 6-4, climbing from fifth to second with 12 points.

Utica also took two of three. The Jr. Comets defeated the RoughRiders 7-1 and Syracuse 3-1 before falling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday. Their four-point weekend moved them ahead of Syracuse into sixth.

Metropolitan Conference: New England Moves Into First

The New England Wolves entered the weekend in fourth place and finished it atop the Metropolitan Conference.

New England beat Lewiston 6-4 on Friday and Thunder Hockey Club 3-2 on Saturday, extending its winning streak to four and reaching 13 points. The Wolves now share that total with Northern and South Shore but sit first in the table.

South Shore produced one of the weekend’s biggest comebacks Friday. The defending Dineen Cup champions trailed Northern 3-0 entering the third period before Jake Pomichter, Brendan Matthews and Andrew Jensen tied the game. The Kings completed the comeback in the shootout for a 4-3 victory.

The Boston Jr. Bruins responded Saturday with a 5-2 win over South Shore, scoring four times in the third. On Sunday, the Boston Jr. Rangers shut out the Bruins 5-0 behind goals from Daniel Jankula, Gavin Parks, William Dunlap and two from Nick Konduh.

Quebec rebounded from Friday’s loss with consecutive victories over Perth-Andover, while St. Stephen earned a 4-2 win in the teams’ Friday meeting.

Midwest Conference: Columbus Remains Perfect

Columbus made the Great Lakes race considerably tighter by sweeping Chicago and improving to 7-0-0-0.

The Mavericks opened the series with an 8-0 shutout Friday. Austin Letcher and Max Bloomfield scored twice apiece, while six Columbus players found the net.

Saturday’s rematch was much closer. Letcher scored twice again, including the decisive third-period goal, as Columbus held off Chicago 4-3.

The sweep moved the Mavericks into a tie with Chicago at 14 points, but Columbus has played four fewer games. The Mavericks have outscored opponents 48-10 through their perfect start.

Toledo also remained unbeaten, defeating Metro 4-1 to improve to 5-0.

In the North Division, Hudson swept its two-game set against Minnesota Blue Ox. The Havoc won 4-3 on Friday and 5-2 on Sunday, moving from third to first with 10 points.

Minnesota Squatch also swept the weekend. Tanner Robinson recorded a hat trick in Friday’s 8-1 win over Wisconsin Rapids, and the Squatch completed the series with a 3-0 shutout Saturday. The two victories moved Minnesota into third place.

South Conference: Charlotte And Hampton Trade Wins

Charlotte and Hampton Roads split two games, but both clubs gained ground in the Southeast race.

The Rush erased a 3-1 deficit Saturday, scoring twice in the third before Luke Avery buried the winner 4:46 into overtime for a 4-3 victory.

Hampton Roads answered Sunday with a 4-1 win. The Whalers finished the weekend with three points and moved into a tie with Carolina at 12, while Charlotte moved into first place with 14.

Potomac and Charleston also needed extra time in both games. The Patriots took Saturday’s meeting 5-4 in a shootout before the Colonials answered with a 3-2 shootout victory Sunday.
