NCDC Performance Player of the Week: Simon McCandless – Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings

The NCDC has named Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings forward Simon McCandless its Performance Player of the Week for games played Oct. 5–11, 2026. McCandless will receive $1,000 through the league’s Performance Pays program.
The Cambridge, Ontario, native scored six goals and added two assists for eight points in two games, helping Wisconsin Rapids sweep its weekend series against the Northwest Express. McCandless scored 60 percent of the Riverkings’ goals and recorded a point on eight of their 10 goals across the two victories.
McCandless opened the weekend with two goals and an assist in a 4-3 overtime victory on Oct. 10. One of his goals came on the power play and had the primary assist on the overtime goal, as Wisconsin Rapids secured the first of two wins.
He followed with four goals and an assist in a 6–2 victory on Oct. 11, contributing to five of the Riverkings’ six goals. His performance included another power-play goal and the game-winning tally.
McCandless averaged four points per game during the award week, scoring multiple goals in both appearances. His six-goal weekend brought his season totals to eight goals and three assists for 11 points through six games.
The Performance Player of the Week award recognizes one NCDC player each week, regardless of position or conference, through a vote by the league’s media panel. It is separate from the League Office’s Stars of the Week selections, which recognize a forward, defenseman and goaltender from each conference and do not include a cash award.
Performance Pays continues in 2026–27, with the NCDC program providing $1,000 weekly awards over 25 weeks. The initiative also rewards championship success, season award recipients and standout postseason performers.
