NCDC Weekend Preview: Two Showcases Put Conference Races On Display | Oct. 9-11, 2026

NCDC Weekend Preview

Two showcase events, three unbeaten conference contenders and several direct meetings between early-season leaders will shape the NCDC weekend from Oct. 9-11.

The Jersey Hitmen Classic brings teams from four conferences to the Ice Vault in Wayne, N.J., while the Hampton Roads Southeast Showcase creates three days of crossover competition between the South Conference’s Florida and Southeast divisions. Both events run through Monday, Oct. 12; this preview covers Friday through Sunday. The NCDC events calendar can be found here.

Away from the showcases, the Midwest Conference features a matchup of unbeaten Great Lakes teams, three clubs enter the weekend tied atop the Mountain Division and Woodstock puts its perfect Northeast record on the line.

Jersey Hitmen Classic: Conference Races Meet At The Ice Vault

The Hitmen Classic creates a three-day test across the Atlantic, Colonial, Metropolitan and Northeast conferences.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton enters the weekend atop the Atlantic with nine points. The Knights open against P.A.L. on Friday before facing the defending Dineen Cup champion South Shore Kings on Saturday and the Rockets Hockey Club on Sunday.

Those Saturday and Sunday games carry weight on both sides. South Shore is 4-0-0-0 and has outscored its opponents 28-8. The Rockets begin the weekend tied with Jersey for second in the Atlantic, two points behind WBS.

Host Jersey brings a 3-0-1-0 record and a two-game winning streak into meetings with West Chester and South Shore. Sunday’s Hitmen-Kings game pairs one of the Atlantic’s early contenders against the unbeaten defending champions.

The Colonial race could also change quickly. Springfield leads with 10 points, but the New York Dynamo and Vermont Universel sit two points back, Syracuse is three back and Red Bank is four back.

Springfield and Syracuse meet Saturday before the Pics face the New England Wolves on Sunday. The Dynamo draw the Boston Jr. Rangers and Boston Jr. Terriers, while Red Bank faces the Boston Jr. Bruins and Quebec Universel.

Atlantic Conference: WBS Faces Three Different Tests

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton begins the weekend at 4-0-0-1, but its lead will be challenged by a demanding three-game showcase schedule.

Friday’s game against P.A.L. is the only direct Atlantic matchup of the three. The Junior Islanders sit three points behind the Knights and can close that gap immediately.

WBS then steps outside the conference to face South Shore before returning to Atlantic competition against the Rockets. With Jersey, the Rockets and P.A.L. all within three points of first, the Knights’ results could reshape the top half of the standings.

Jersey has an opportunity to strengthen its position against West Chester and South Shore. Mercer and the Connecticut Junior Rangers also meet Saturday before closing against Metropolitan opponents Sunday.

Colonial Conference: Five Teams Separated By Four Points

No NCDC conference enters the weekend with a tighter race near the top.

Springfield leads with 10 points, followed by the New York Dynamo and Vermont with eight, Syracuse with seven and Red Bank with six. Each of those teams will play at least twice at the Hitmen Classic.

Saturday’s Syracuse-Springfield game is the conference’s most direct standings test. Syracuse can pull even with the Pics with a regulation victory, while Springfield can create separation at the top.

The Dynamo have scored a conference-leading 32 goals through five games. Their matchups with the Boston Jr. Rangers and Boston Jr. Terriers offer a chance to carry that offense against Metropolitan opponents.

Red Bank enters on a three-game winning streak and faces Boston and Quebec. Vermont draws the Connecticut RoughRiders and Worcester, while the Connecticut Chiefs meet Quebec and Syracuse.

Metropolitan Conference: South Shore’s Perfect Start Hits The Showcase

The Northern Cyclones lead the Metropolitan Conference with 10 points, but South Shore’s perfect start has placed the defending champions two points back with two games in hand.

The Kings have scored seven goals per game through their opening four contests while allowing only eight total. Their weekend at the Ice Vault brings two major tests: Atlantic-leading WBS on Saturday and host Jersey on Sunday.

Boston Jr. Terriers also sit on eight points and face the New England Wolves and New York Dynamo. The Islanders Hockey Club can make up ground through games against the Rockets and West Chester.

Northern closes Sunday against Mercer looking to protect the top position.

Hampton Roads Southeast Showcase: Florida Meets The Southeast

The Hampton Roads Whalers bring a perfect 3-0-0-0 record into their home showcase and sit two points behind Charlotte in the Southeast Division.

Hampton Roads opens against Carolina on Friday before facing Florida opponent Coral Springs on Sunday. The Whalers have scored 16 goals and allowed eight through their first three games.

Charlotte leads the Southeast with eight points and has won two straight. The Rush play Typhoon on Friday, the Florida Eels on Saturday and Tampa Bay on Sunday.

That Sunday matchup is one of the weekend’s strongest showcase games. Tampa Bay has won three straight and begins the weekend tied with the Florida Surge atop the Florida Division. Charlotte brings the Southeast lead and a 4-1 record into the crossover.

Carolina also enters on a three-game winning streak. The Jr. Hurricanes face Hampton Roads, Tampa Bay and the Florida Surge.

Southeast Showcase Games To Watch

  • Friday: Tampa Bay vs. Potomac; Florida Jr. Blades vs. Yorktown; Typhoon vs. Charlotte; Carolina vs. Hampton Roads.
  • Saturday: Florida Eels vs. Charlotte; Typhoon vs. Yorktown; Coral Springs vs. Charleston; Tampa Bay vs. Carolina; Florida Jr. Blades vs. Potomac.
  • Sunday: Florida Surge vs. Carolina; Florida Eels vs. Potomac; Tampa Bay vs. Charlotte; Florida Jr. Blades vs. Charleston; Coral Springs vs. Hampton Roads.

Midwest Conference: Unbeaten Records Meet In Toledo

Chicago Union and the Toledo Cherokee bring perfect records into a two-game Great Lakes series.

Chicago leads the division at 6-0-0-0 and has outscored its opponents 29-12. Toledo is 2-0-0-0 and has scored 11 goals in its first two games. They meet Friday and Saturday in Toledo, guaranteeing a first loss for at least one of the Great Lakes’ unbeaten teams.

Columbus is also perfect at 3-0-0-0. The Mavericks face Red River on consecutive nights and can gain ground while Chicago and Toledo take points from one another.

Metro and Fort Wayne play a home-and-home set Friday and Saturday.

The North Division is much tighter. Hudson leads with six points, followed by the Minnesota Blue Ox with four and Northwest and Wisconsin Rapids with three each.

Hudson hosts Northwest on Friday. The Express then play Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday and Sunday, while the Blue Ox and Minnesota Squatch meet twice.

Northeast Conference: Woodstock Defends The Lead

Woodstock is 4-0-0-0 and has outscored its opponents 20-8. The Warriors face Northern Maine on Friday and Perth-Andover on Sunday as they try to protect the conference lead.

Lewiston enters on a three-game winning streak and plays St. Stephen on consecutive nights. The MAINEiacs sit two points behind Woodstock, while Thunder Hockey Club and St. Stephen also remain within three points of first.

Thunder and Montreal meet Saturday and Sunday in Laval. Montreal enters following its first victory of the season and can use the home set to begin climbing the conference table.

West Conference: Three-Way Race In The Mountains

Park City, Rock Springs and Vernal enter the weekend tied with six points atop the Mountain Division.

Friday places the two unbeaten-in-regulation leaders directly against each other when Rock Springs hosts Park City. The Miners are 3-0-0-0 and have allowed only three goals through their first three games.

Park City then travels to Vernal on Saturday. With two direct meetings among the three leaders, the Mountain standings could look very different by the end of the weekend.

In the Pacific Division, Lake Tahoe hosts McCall for a three-game series. The Lakers enter on a two-game winning streak and sit two points behind idle leader Fresno. Ventura and Ontario meet Sunday, with both teams looking to gain ground in the four-team division.
