The National Collegiate Development Conference’s Unfinished Business series highlights returning veterans who are back to lead, continue their development and pursue goals still within reach. Whether it’s a Dineen Cup championship, a college commitment or another opportunity to prove themselves, these players return to the NCDC with unfinished business.
One of those players is Hampton Roads Whalers forward Matiss Zilitis, who returns for his second season with the organization after a strong debut campaign. During the 2025-26 season, Zilitis recorded 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 43 games, then added three points in six playoff contests while helping the Whalers advance to the National Championships.

Now entering his second season with the Whalers, Zilitis is expected to serve as one of the team’s alternate captains while continuing to play a key role in every situation. Head Coach Colten Teubert values Zilitis’ versatility, noting his ability to make an impact whether he’s playing left wing, center or right wing.
“Zilly is a contagious race horse with no quit,” said Teubert. “He is a snappy skater and has high finish quality shooting, low-risk, high-reward vision and playmaking.”
After proving himself as a dependable contributor in all situations and delivering timely performances during the postseason, Zilitis returns as an important piece of the Whalers’ veteran core. With another year of experience behind him, he’ll look to continue building on a successful first season while helping lead Hampton Roads throughout the 2026-27 campaign.
