NCDC Weekend Preview: Conference Races Heat Up Across the League | Oct. 16-18, 2026

NCDC Weekend Preview

The NCDC enters another important weekend with conference races beginning to take shape across the league and the inaugural NCDC Florida Cup bringing postseason-style hockey to Fort Myers.

Four Florida Division teams will compete for the Cup, while several of the league’s early leaders face direct challenges within their conferences. The schedule includes a meeting between the Metropolitan Conference’s top two teams, a showdown between undefeated Great Lakes contenders and three games between the Pacific Division’s leading clubs.

Florida Cup Brings Championship Hockey To Fort Myers

The Florida Eels, Florida Jr. Blades, Coral Springs Jr. Cats and Typhoon Hockey Club will compete Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Myers Skatium, with a separate NCDC champion crowned at the end of the weekend.

Saturday’s semifinals open with Coral Springs facing Typhoon at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the Eels against the Jr. Blades at 6 p.m. The winners advance to Sunday’s championship game at 6 p.m., while the other two teams meet in the consolation game at 3 p.m.

Coral Springs enters the event on a three-game winning streak and sits second in the Florida Division at 5-2-0-0. The Jr. Cats are the highest-placed participating team, but the elimination format gives every club a direct path to becoming the first NCDC Florida Cup champion.

The four organizations will also contest a separate USPHL Premier tournament as part of the event. Read the official Florida Cup preview.

Atlantic Conference: A Weekend Of Direct Tests

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights enter the weekend atop the Atlantic with 13 points, one ahead of the P.A.L. Jr. Islanders. The Knights begin Friday against West Chester before closing the weekend Sunday against Utica.

P.A.L. can continue applying pressure when it meets Mercer on Friday. The Chiefs then face Jersey on Sunday, giving them two opportunities to affect the top half of the Atlantic race.

Friday’s Jersey Hitmen-Rockets Hockey Club meeting carries immediate significance. The clubs enter the game tied at nine points, with Jersey holding a game in hand. The Hitmen also play Mercer on Sunday, while the Rockets face Islanders Hockey Club on Saturday.

West Chester has a demanding weekend of its own, following Friday’s game against the conference-leading Knights with a Sunday matchup against Islanders Hockey Club. West Chester will also be playing against Lebanon Valley College (NCAA DIII) on Saturday for an exhibition matchup. Find out more about that game here.

Colonial Conference: Dynamo And Red Bank Meet Near The Top

New York Dynamo and the Springfield Pics enter the weekend tied atop the Colonial with 12 points, but the Dynamo hold two games in hand.

Dynamo’s Friday meeting with Red Bank is the conference’s headline matchup. The Generals sit only two points off the lead and have won two straight, making the game an opportunity to join the leaders rather than chase them.

New York returns Saturday against the Connecticut RoughRiders, while Red Bank has only Friday’s contest on its weekend schedule.

Vermont Universel, also sitting on 10 points, hosts the Connecticut Chiefs on Friday. Utica meets the RoughRiders that afternoon before facing Syracuse on Saturday and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday.

The weekend concludes with an in-state meeting between the Connecticut Chiefs and RoughRiders on Sunday afternoon.

Metropolitan Conference: First Place Meets The Defending Champions

The Metropolitan’s top two teams meet Friday when the Northern Cyclones face the defending Dineen Cup champion South Shore Kings.

Northern enters the weekend with 12 points and the conference lead. South Shore is one point back despite having played two fewer games, carrying a 5-0-1-0 record and a conference-best plus-22 goal differential.

The Kings will have little recovery time before meeting a Boston Jr. Bruins team that has won two straight Saturday morning. The Bruins also face the Boston Jr. Rangers on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Worcester Railers JHC opens the weekend against the Boston Jr. Terriers. Worcester has won two straight and is one of three Metropolitan teams sitting on nine points alongside the Terriers and New England Wolves.

Islanders Hockey Club, meanwhile, begins a three-game weekend against the Connecticut Jr. Rangers before facing the Rockets and West Chester.

Northeast Conference: Woodstock Puts Its Perfect Start On The Line

The Woodstock Warriors remain the NCDC’s only unbeaten team at 6-0-0-0, having outscored opponents 34-12. Their perfect start will be tested Friday on the road against Quebec Universel.

Thunder Hockey Club holds the conference lead with 13 points after playing four more games than Woodstock. Thunder faces Montreal on Friday and Sunday, with a cross-conference game against the New England Wolves between those meetings Saturday.

Montreal and Thunder have already shown how little can separate them. Their previous two-game set included a 1-0 overtime decision, and this weekend provides another chance for the Black Vees to build on that result.

Quebec and Perth-Andover also meet on consecutive days, while St. Stephen County faces Perth-Andover on Friday and Northern Maine on Saturday.

Midwest Conference: The Great Lakes Race Comes To Columbus

Chicago Union holds first place in the Great Lakes Division with 12 points, but two undefeated challengers are closing quickly.

The Columbus Mavericks are 5-0-0-0 with a 36-7 goal differential. They host Chicago on Friday and Saturday in a two-game series that could change the top of the standings. Chicago then meets Fort Wayne on Sunday.

The series also gives the Union an immediate opportunity to respond after dropping two straight. Columbus, meanwhile, can turn its perfect start into control of the division race.

Toledo Cherokee also enters the weekend unbeaten at 4-0-0-0. The Cherokee meet Metro on Friday, while the Jets look to end a three-game skid.

The North Division is even tighter. Minnesota Blue Ox and Wisconsin Rapids share the lead with seven points, with Hudson and Northwest only one point behind.

Wisconsin Rapids plays Minnesota Squatch on Friday and Saturday. Blue Ox meets Hudson on Friday, Northwest on Saturday and Hudson again Sunday, creating a three-game stretch with points available against each of its closest pursuers.

South Conference: Two Series Carry Southeast Implications

Carolina and Charlotte share first place in the Southeast Division with 12 points, but Hampton Roads enters the weekend three points back with two games in hand.

That makes the Whalers’ home series against Charlotte one of the weekend’s most important. They meet Saturday night and return Sunday morning, giving Hampton Roads an opportunity to pull even with—or move past—the Rush.

Potomac and Charleston also play twice. The Colonials enter on a two-game winning streak and sit four points behind the leaders, while the Patriots can cut into that gap through the head-to-head series.

The Florida Division’s attention shifts to Fort Myers, where the Florida Cup will determine more than standings points. One of four in-state rivals will leave Sunday as the first NCDC winner of the event.

West Conference: First-Place Series In The Pacific

Lake Tahoe enters the weekend riding a five-game winning streak and leading the Pacific Division with 10 points. Fresno sits four points behind but has played two fewer games and brings a three-game streak into the weekend.

The division’s top two teams meet Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The three-game series gives Lake Tahoe an opportunity to extend its early advantage—or Fresno a chance to reshape the Pacific race in one weekend.

McCall begins on Friday against Ventura before facing Ontario on Saturday.

In the Mountain Division, first-place Park City hosts Casper on Friday and Vernal on Saturday. Rock Springs, only two points behind the Outliers with a game in hand, faces Vernal on Friday and Casper on Saturday.

With Park City, Rock Springs, Vernal and Casper all facing another contender, the Mountain standings could look considerably different by Sunday night.

Five Matchups That Could Define The Weekend

  1. Northern Cyclones vs. South Shore Kings — Friday: First place in the Metropolitan meets the unbeaten defending Dineen Cup champions, who sit one point back with two games in hand.
  2. Chicago Union vs. Columbus Mavericks — Friday and Saturday: Chicago leads the Great Lakes by two points, but undefeated Columbus can take control of the race during this two-game series.
  3. Fresno Monsters vs. Lake Tahoe Lakers — Friday through Sunday: The Pacific Division’s top two teams meet three times, with first-place Lake Tahoe riding a five-game winning streak and Fresno having won three straight.
  4. Hampton Roads Whalers vs. Charlotte Rush — Saturday and Sunday: Hampton Roads trails the co-leading Rush by three points with two games in hand, making this a direct opportunity to reshape the Southeast race.
  5. Florida Cup — Saturday and Sunday: Coral Springs, Typhoon, the Florida Jr. Blades and the Florida Eels enter a four-team bracket that will crown the first NCDC Florida Cup champion.
